The hotel “Hirschen” was built in 1851 by the famous Dr. Lainer. The house has the style of 1900 and was used for cure treatments. The hotel was famous for being the first house in Bad Gastein with a open-air pool, where the guests could refresh themselves in the sommer months. Many guests visited the hotel “Hirschen” for this special attraction. Because of Dr. Lainer, the “Kaiser Wilhelm promenade” was built directly next to the hotel in 1886, especially for the cure guests. This wonderful promenade is still opened today and you can use it for a nice walk to Bad Hofgastein or to the “Kötschachtal”. The sunny and quiet location of the hotel, induced Siegmund Freud to make a summer vacation in his nearby Villa (today Villa Excelsior).

Many famous guests of Bad Gastein like e.g. Kaiserin Elisabeth, Kaiser Wilhelm, Fürst Bismark, Grillparzer, Schubert and many more walked along the promenade with its fantastic view and get past Hotel Hirschen. Despite its quiet location the hotel is only 5 – 10 walking minutes away from the centre of Bad Gastein, where you can listen to nice concerts in summer and have a lot of fun at the Apres-Ski bars and discos in winter. Today all 19 rooms are equipped with bath or shower, WC, TV, in some cases a small kitchen with refridgerator and microwave. Breakfast and dinner are served in our beautiful winter garden directly next to the promenade. During winter season there is a ski bus going from the hotel to the valley station of the “Stubnerkogel Bahn”.
